Aurora Aksnes' first musical memories involve finding a tiny piano in her basement and being fascinated at the sound it created. Parents May-Britt as well as Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to pursue music not as a career or hobby but for growth. The Aksnes family inspired her to write. Her sources include noted writers Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan and her affinity with Bjork's style. Her mother had said that her songs would not just help her gain fame, but also make others see their importance within the global community and see the possibilities for them and her music, she was inspired to start playing in front of the public. At age 6, she began to play the piano and at nine, started writing songs. It was not until she turned 14 that she revealed her plans to her parents. Aurora's fame was not her goal. According to her, she simply enjoys writing songs. She says that music is her preferred method of feeling something.
